Abstract
The study examined the effects of color-focused group art therapy on the development of personality of preschool children and subcategories of respect, sharing, cooperation, order, filial piety, and consideration. Sixteen children were selected for this study according to the selection criteria in B child care center in city A, and were randomly assigned evenly into a control group and experiment group. Color-focused art therapy was administered to the experimental groups for 60 minutes twice a week for a total of 12 sessions. To verify the effectiveness of the program, a children's personality test for teachers was performed. The results were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 22.0 program. In addition, the averages and standard deviations of the pre- and post-tests of the personality tests were obtained and proven by comparisons with nonparametric methods in the Mann-Whitney U test. Changes in behavior related to the sub-elements of personalities were recorded per session and analyzed qualitatively. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, color-focused group art therapy showed a significant positive effect on the personality development of preschool children. Second, these results suggest that the experience of various colors through the color-focused group art therapy program has a positive effect on negative emotions and problem behaviors of children and is effective for emotional stabilities and psychological recoveries of children.
